Suke Quto – Guji, Ethiopia Our first special and a keeper: An Ethiopian Natural grade 1 from the Suke Quto farm of Tesfaye Bekele.

This organic coffee comes from the Suke Quto farm in the green, hilly Guji region of Ethiopia. At an altitude of 1,800 to 2,200 meters, the indigenous Kurume and Welicho varieties grow under the natural shade of the forest. The coffee is naturally processed, yet so well-graded that it is certified Grade 1 – the highest quality class.

We roast this coffee in such a way that it is perfect as an espresso and as a filter coffee.
As an espresso: distinct, sweet and fruity, with a medium body.
As a filter: clear, sweet and fruity, with a soft balance and medium body.

About the farmer

An Ethiopian Natural Grade 1 from Tesfaye Bekele's Suke Quto farm. This farmer grew up surrounded by coffee, went on to study, and worked as a conservationist for the government in his native region. After major forest fires, he saw coffee as a way to help the region recover. He distributed coffee plants, but couldn't get people involved. So he started farming himself. Now, 171 neighboring coffee farmers supply their coffee cherries to his farm. He also has 200 hectares of his own coffee farm. He reuses the organic waste streams to optimally nourish the soil on his farm. The coffee is certified organic.
